5th Spell: [Video/Action for Breeding Centre]

[It's late at night. The lights are dim, and Ilya is nestled up against her loyal Houndoom. Cerberus is curled around her, head in her lap, and she absently scratches the dog's ears as she stares into the gear for a few moments silently. She opens her mouth, closes it again, frowns in thought, and then finally opens it again, though she's speaking pretty softly.]

So... did anyone do anything for Mother's Day today? Even if your mother isn't here?

... Actually, especially then.

[She stares at the gear with a blank expression for a few moments, then sighs and turns it off. The particularly observant might notice a little bit of wetness in her right eye as she does so.]

Ilyasviel. [ All Saber can do is exhale her name. What can she say to alleviate her sadness any? ]

... Saber.

[She doesn't really have much else to say, just lowering her head so her bangs cover her eyes. But after a few moments, she manages something else.]

I'm just gonna guess your answer's no.

[ Of course her answer is no. Saber's technically a "mother" herself in a way, but none of that matters. What does is the suffering of this lady. ]

Such thoughts should not keep you from your rest. [ A small frown. ] This place should have not reminded you of the day.

You can't honestly expect me to sleep right now.

[There's a bit of an irritated edge to her voice, but it fades out quickly and she just slumps further.]

It's a holiday, Saber. Even I can tell they aren't doing it just to spite me. I just...

[She stops mid-sentence and shakes her head.]

I know. [ If she could, she would eliminate the holiday altogether for Ilyasviel's sake. ] It is late in the eve, what else am I to expect you to do?

[ Even if she wasn't in a child's body, Saber would insist all the same. No one runs the late hours that she does. ~~Besides Shirou but who knows how he ran on three hours sleep every day.~~ ]

What might I do to aid you?

We have Mother's Day in my country but...I tried to make the kind of food she would make for me back home.

... Tell me a story.

[It's one of the silliest, most childish things she could say, and she knows it, but she doesn't care. She's... a little desperate, and Saber's the one who was closest to her mother in this world.]

About her.

Food... [She giggles a little, but there's not really much mirth in it.] My mom couldn't cook very well. It was one of the few things she couldn't do, actually.

[ but it's a start. he's never quite sure how to approach these kinds of posts. but if he can offer a distraction for a bit maybe that can help. ] I didn't manage to reproduce it very well.

All the things they manage to do, it's pretty amazing.

A story...

[ A nod. ] I will be right there.

[ Shutting off the PokeGear, Saber moves from her office towards Ilyasviel's room. Funny, it takes her a little longer than normal to make it there but there's a loud knock on the door before any concerns can be voiced. ]

[It's not Ilya who opens the door, but Orpheus. The usually playful ghost lets Saber in and glances between her and his trainer worriedly, obviously concerned for her. Cerberus raises her head and sniffs, then lowers it again onto Ilya's lap upon recognizing her scent.

Finally, Ilya lifts her head. The telltale signs of crying are all there, puffy eyes, blotched cheeks, but her eyes themselves are clear.]

Do you have one?

Mmmm, she was amazing.

[Her face falls a little at "was", and she goes silent for a bit, wringing her hands and shaking a little. But she forces it away.]

I can't cook at all either. I guess I take after her.

[She laughs, feebly and mostly forced.]

I would not have come otherwise. [ ... Okay, so maybe she would have. Knightly instincts aside, she holds up a Pokeball. ] Last week while I was in Kanto, I stopped by to pick up something for you.

Um...

[ Shifting awkwardly in place within the door frame. ]

It goes with the story.

[Her eyes go straight to the ball, and stay locked there as the gears in her mind turn.]

A Pokemon? Saber, is that...?

Unfortunately, it is not the one she had. I could not find her within the wild as it often goes with Pokemon who wander off. [ Lowering her head. ] However, she was fond of this one. She had two of them and they often hogged her the best they could.

It took a while to discover where they might be. [ Fortunately, she succeeded before the second Sunday in May. That was what Shirou told her. ]

[She can't really help but feel disappointed that it's not one of her mother's actual Pokemon, but she lets it slide out of sheer interest and the knowledge that there's a story behind this.]

Then... What is it?

[She's practically being eaten alive by curiosity at this point, leaning in close to peer at the ball.]

[ ~~Sadly, Saber couldn't get permission in time. ALAS.~~ ]

The story or the Pokemon?

[ Turning the Pokeball upside for her to take it if she wishes. Although that does mean having to get up and approach her. What a stubborn knight. ]

Both.

[But her eyes are still glued to the ball. After a few moments, she reaches out for it hesitantly, only noting that she can't reach it (despite that being kind of obvious) after she's already extended her arm. After a moments hesitation, she clucks her tongue at the Houndoom in her lap, which yawns and rises up on all fours, freeing her mistress. Ilya promptly stands and walks over to Saber to accept the gift.]

But I guess the Pokemon first. [She takes the ball and presses the button.]

[ Guess that Pokemon.

It's Spheal! ]

Your mother started with one of these. I was only able to locate them in the Seafoam Islands. You may have it if you like. If not, I will care for it properly in hopes I can use it to locate the others.

[It's a while before Hiccup actually replies to this, and he debates whether or not to use audio instead. Eventually, though, he clicks on the video function.]

I don't have a mom, but... Sometimes--here--someone makes me feel like I do. [His smile is weak and a little embarrassed.] I celebrated with her. And just...tried to remember my mom. It's hard, though, I don't have many memories of her.

I'm sorry. [ he says quietly, not really sure what else to say to that. ]

It's something that can be learned. I said I didn't do well but that was because I didn't really have the right ingredients. If you wanted to learn I'm sure you could.

[She peers at the little smiling ball curiously, extending a finger to poke it after a moment. The Spheal giggles and bounces into her arms, causing her to gasp in surprise, though she catches it just fine.]

... Mama liked this one, then? [She pauses a little, looking it over. The cutesiness isn't her usual type, but if her mother liked it...] What did she call hers?

Mmmm, it's fine. I can usually find ways around it.

[She knows that's not what he's apologizing for, but it's easier for her to just skirt around the real issue.]

I guess I could try. My maids and Shirou always did it back home, I never really thought about learning myself. But I wouldn't mind giving it a chance once or twice...

I... think I kind of know what you're talking about, actually. I don't have any family aside from my mom and dad, but there was someone back home who was... like a brother to me.

... I'm sorry she left you so soon. [No one should be without a mom.]

[Hiccup shrugs--it's harder for his dad, he knows, even if he did miss her.]

What about you? Did you do anything today?

[ Saber. Lancer. ]

Ah, do not tell me you intend to name your own after... [ Laughing nervously. ]

[Well that gets an eyebrow raise out of her.]

I was thinking about it. Why?

No, not really. I was mostly asking to see if anyone else had some ideas... and remembering her, I guess.

[Given that she hasn't been able to get her out of her mind all day, that's an understatement.]

Yeah... I don't really know what someone could do. Even something like cooking her favorite meal would be mostly just symbolic.

But then, I think remembering her is enough. She'd probably be touched.

'tis embarrassing to admit. [ She mutters under her breath. ]

[ if she doesn't want to talk about it he won't pry. it seems something too personal and painful for him to really be able to say anything. ]

If you follow recipes it's not difficult. It's kind of nice, the feeling of eating your own food or making food for your friends.

[Aaaaand that gets a wicked grin.]

You know that's just going to make me more curious.

They do have those recipes that come out in the news every couple of weeks... Maybe I'll try the next one. I know someone who will eat it even if it turns out horribly, so it won't go to waste.

[Ilya... Ilya don't implicitly threaten Saber's well-being like that.]

Well, it's not like I can forget her. Her and my father were all I had until very recently.

... I guess I was wondering about this place, too. Saber... she told me she was here, for a while, but that she left a month before I came. Why would it do that? Why send her home without even letting me see her?

The ones there would be a good start, they're pretty simple and they're tasty too.

This place... As much as I like it most of the time, it isn't all that big on fairness. It wouldn't surprise me if things like that happened all the time.

She named her own after me and another after my rival in the Fourth Holy Grail War. [ Saber can't say no to prying children, much less ladies. ] That is why it would be embarrassing.

She... she named it after you?

[She pauses for a few seconds...

Then starts giggling.]

That's more than unfair. That's cruel.

[And she knows a thing or two about cruelty.]

Whatever brings people here... either it's random and we just have bad luck, or it likes hurting us.

Mmm! I'll try one or two of those out then! Maybe the next one they show.

How is that...

[ No, maybe she shouldn't chide the girl for laughing. It is probably the first bout of cheer she's had all weekend. ]

Yes, after myself.

I guess I can't use the same name, then. Sorry, Saber, but Berserker's the only Servant for me.

[She looks down at the Spheal for a few moments, considering her options.]

Alright. I'll call you Iris.
