[It starts with an unfamiliar woman walking up to the Breeding Centre in Goldenrod. She looks around for a bit, as if checking the place out, then puts her hands on her hips.]

Well, I think I just figured out what's going on.

[A few moments later, she's gone. Where? Well, it's fourth wall weekend. She could be anywhere.

Including right behind you, leaning over your shoulder and grinning.]

Gucumatz lowers his head, draping his neck over the dumpster almost casually.] YOU GOOD MANNERS. WASTE TO EAT YOU. [He rumbles.] BUT YOU NOT GET HOPES UP. ME ALREADY FIGHT FOR SOMEONE. WE JUST TALK.

Oh I wouldn't try to steal you from your current summoner. [Her eyes flicker to Walter, still full of mirth.] Besides, my time calling powerful forces from outside of the world to do my bidding is long past.

[She grins wryly.] These days I call them from inside this world.

[Hey stop looking at him like that. (He's suspicious now, and listening carefully.)]

AWOO? YOU GREAT SUMMONER? [The serpent leans closer.] YOU TRY DEMONS SOME TIME. WE TEACH YOU FUN TRICKS.

Hmmm... demons could be a fun change. My last bond was with a demigod who was kind of demonic, but he didn't actually have demon blood or anything.

HE COME PLAY WITH DEMONS TOO. I GOD TOO, ONCE. I MAKE ANIMALS. I MAKE HUMANS AND THEY HUNT ANIMALS! [Gucumatz rises back up, shaking himself in a delighted way.] BUT NOW DEMONS HUNT HUMANS, AND HUMANS HUNT BACK. IS WAY OF WORLD. [He tilts his head back.] AWOOOOO!

[Ohhhhkay hold up. Walter's minion might be content but he himself doesn't like missing huge chunks of context.] Wait - what is this thing you summoned? [Anything that isn't a Samurai dealing with anything that is vaguely demonic is worth not being completely in the dark about.]

[She turns to Walter at that question with a positively gleeful smile on her face.] His name was Hercules. If you're from Earth, that should be all you need to know. If not, I'll do my best to explain.

...i am honestly surprised that hercules isn't featured in any megaten entry, demon or otherwise

[Blank stare. He's from Earth, but...doesn't know why that should mean he knows any Hercules. He glances briefly at Gucumatz when the serpent lets out a comprehending, interested "OOH."]

That IS surprising.

... Am I to take that as you not knowing who he was? The greatest hero of Ancient Greece. The strongest man in the world, one of the sons of Zeus, the King of the Gods.

[More blank staring. Gucumatz unwinds and makes a long arch across the distance to his master, whispering something into Walter's ear. He nods after a moment, brows furrowing a little. "WAS MAN WHO KILL ORTHRUS," the serpent rumbles as an addendum as he lifts his head away.]

So...a fearsome character, demon or no. [Whether she's bad news or relatively benign, this girl is not someone Walter feels like turning his back on for long.]

Oh very much so. The more so as he was summoned under me as a Berserker.

[Though, really, he would have been far more dangerous if he could have actually fought tactically rather than just mindlessly wrecking everything.]

Your friend mentioned Orthrus... he also fought and defeated Cerberus, if you're familiar with that one, though he didn't kill him.

The three-headed hound. [Flynn had stopped that one from running wild in Shinjuku, though Walter didn't know much of either of the dogs' histories. Those demons that had formed allegiances with the Samurai were the ones able to tell their stories in full; the rest, they had learned how to fight, but large pieces of the picture were often missing.

So what purpose does one go around summoning beings like that for? If you've never seen a demon...

Oh no, well not in my case at least. There was a War going on... a War of Magi, not armies.

Magi. [He glances at Gucumatz again, but the demon doesn't have any further insight - in fact, he doesn't look very interested anymore, returning to picking odd scraps of metal out of the dumpster.

War makes sense, though, whoever's fighting it.]

Not... really. I was actually pretty helpless myself. I was a summoner almost solely.
