7th Grail: [Video/Action for Goldenrod]

Hydra, let go.

[A shiny, newborn Deino gives a plaintive whine, but Ilya ignores him and pulls her hair out of his reach, offering a long stick instead. He begins to bite into it with gusto.]

You know, people keep talking about how troublesome it is that Deinos love to bite things, but I think there's another problem, and I'm not so sure they're the only ones that have it. Deinos are blind, right? And so is their first evolution, Zweilous. But when they evolve into Hydreigon they can suddenly see. Doesn't that seem like it might cause problems? What would it be like to be blind all your life, then suddenly be able to see? They say Hydreigon is vicious, but maybe it's just scared.

[There's a snapping sound, and Ilya glances over at her dragon, who has bitten straight through that stick and is now trying to find something new. She sighs and offers him another one.]

I don't know what can be done about it, though. You can't really help them try to see before that. I suppose you could try blindfolding the Hydreigon, but I don't think that would work very well.

[The second stick snaps, and a sudden gust of wind blows her hair across Hydra's nose. He snaps it up immediately.]

Ack! ... Although, I guess I do understand the first problem, too. Hydra, let go. I said, let go-

[And with a muffled chomping sound, most of the rest of her hair suddenly vanishes into the maw of the Garchomp that just snuck up behind her. Ilya scowls.]

Not you too, Typhon! Why do you dragons think my hair tastes so good?

That seems like the most likely answer, given what I've observed of the natives.
enjoymyatelier: actually, it totally will. (aha! a plan that will not end in failure)

Ah, the legends of this world are compelling, even if very little else is. The Ecruteak ones... I haven't been able to visit the sites related to them yet on account of the fact that I haven't made it to Ecruteak, but they seem quite interesting from secondhand sources. Did he tell you anything about them other than that they existed?

Fairly accurate, yes. Would you like me to tell you about them now, or would you rather track them down yourself?

[He'd normally launch into TL;DR but let's face it sometimes setting goals helps stave off boredom and he'd only wish being bored here on someone like Waver Velvet.]

Honestly, unless there's some interesting attraction, staying in one place for too long here is fairly dull... but if everything people say about Ecruteak is true, I might find it somewhat difficult to leave.

Hm... would you be interested in hearing something from another region, actually? While the myths of this region are fairly interesting, they're not my favorites, and believe me-finding information about other regions' myths is an exercise in frustration to begin with, even if they're all worth reading up on.
enjoymyatelier: but what would that even do. (gradients of babylon...?)

It's... difficult to tell, because not all of them have solid information on them. The ones I've actually been able to find information on are Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova; Hoenn appears to be somewhere to the south, Sinnoh appears to be somewhere to the north, and I can't get a good read on where Unova is, though it appears to be far away. There are others by the names of Oblivia, Almia, Orre, and Fiore, but while they appear to be inhabited the only information I've been able to find on them is their names.

[imagine his chagrin when some new region with more detailed information than the last four suddenly starts showing up in his research in a few months]

Very little, I'm afraid-the people here are bad enough about not having information on the regions that are nearby, so you can imagine how abysmal they are with far-away regions. I've found the names of two that seem to be connected, Reshiram and Zekrom, and the fact that they're both Dragon with Fire and Electric as their respective secondary types, but... barely anything else.

That seems to be the case, which strikes me as a bit odd. I can understand Dragon and Electric being a unique combination, but Dragon and Fire?

In any case, there probably is more to it than that, it's just that information is difficult to find. I don't doubt that more detailed information exists in these two regions, but it's been quite tedious to track down.

That's true... it would certainly explain why Dragon is its own type, at least. Still, the dragons here seem to be a mix of Eastern-style and Western-style dragons, and I do think connections can be made between the sorts of creatures that exist-or have existed in the past-in our world and the creatures that exist here. While I wouldn't expect them to be dominant, I'd expect there to be more than one.

Ecruteak, while possibly not the greatest source of information on legends in other regions, is certainly very relevant to Johto's legends. There are sites connected to various legendary Pokemon of this region, and from what I've read, many of the locals seem to take an interest in history and the preservation of old traditions.

That's true... though, Charizard seems to resemble Western dragons quite closely and it appears to be native to Kanto, though... for... whatever reason it isn't actually a Dragon.

[in which literally everyone scratches their heads over that one.]

Those would be the Bell Tower and the Burned Tower, which are respectively the former roost of the legendary bird Ho-oh and the tower that figures into the origin of the legendary beasts Entei, Raikou, and Suicune.

I suppose Dragon, Fire, and the ability Levitate would account for its ability to fly... and account for its rather serious weakness to Rock, even if it wouldn't erase it. Unfortunately, that's just how it is-there's no way to change around a Pokemon's type and abilities.

[and then mega stones will happen and everyone will shit bricks]

There's one more-Lugia, which is another legendary... well, it seems to be classified as a bird, even if it resembles some sort of dragon more closely. Supposedly it's considered the guardian of the sea, though rather than being of the Water or Dragon type it's actually Psychic and Flying.

No, that's certainly true, though I can't help but presume that it's amused rather than annoyed.

[if nothing else, ampharos will be able to realize their true calling as electric/dragon eighties musicians]

Celebi seems even more enigmatic than the other ones I've heard of, which is certainly saying something. I've seen some references to it being able to travel through time, but little else.

It seems to be the latter, as another legendary Pokemon from outside Johto has actual dominion over time. Well, according to the legends, anyway.
