1st Grail: [Action for Goldenrod]

[There is a young girl in Team attire wandering the halls.

Ilya was getting bored sitting and waiting for someone to come get her, and she doesn't yet understand how to use the gear, so instead she's decided to poke her head out and find out about this place firsthand. She doesn't seem to have any real idea where she's going, or what most of the things she's surrounded by are, so she could probably be found anywhere, and she's distracted enough that other team members will probably notice her before she notices them.

That, however, is not true of the Duskull that just popped out in front of her, right in the face of anyone looking at her. Red eyes staring at them, it lets out a spooky wail.

She turns to follow the sound and beams, uncaring of how discomfited the other member may or may not be.]

Good work, Orpheus, you found someone!

[Late in the afternoon in Goldenrod city, there is the sound of something pounding on the pavement.

Is it a swarm of pokemon in the city? A new rocket plot? Another angry legendary?

Nope, it's just a young girl-]

Faster, Berserker, Faster!

[Riding through town on the back of her Rhyhorn.

People dive out of the way of the galloping rock-type, but Ilya doesn't seem to care in the slightest. She throws back her head and laughs gleefully, not even paying attention to anything but the rush of her ride.

... Someone might want to try and stop her before she smashes something.]

All the time? There's no limit to how many orders we can give them?

[That's even better than the command spells!]

That's right. As long as you don't release them yourself there's no limit to how much you can command them.

So even if they hated me, they'd have to do whatever I said...

[And if she's understanding him right, that's true for everyone.]

But you said it's important to have a good relationship with them, anyway.

Well, I wouldn't want to work with anyone who hated me. [Have a small, sad smile.] Unfortunately one of my Pokémon does and if I do anything he doesn't like he's pretty violent towards me.

[But it wasn't like he could just release it. Rocket starter and all.]

Oh, then you're talking from experience.

[And Ilya can kind of see where he's coming from.]

But can't you just order him not to attack you?

In rare cases, Pokémon do disobey. They can bypass orders like "Don't attack me" or "Stand still". It's the orders in battle that are absolute for them.

Usually Pokémon are obedient though, so there's no real need to worry about that... but if you want to be sure that they are, it's important to remain good towards them from the beginning.

Okay, that makes sense!

[Not that she was planning on angering her Pokemon anyway, but... actually she should probably ask about that.]

So... what do you do to make sure they like you, then?

[If only he had always pretended to be a good Rocket, Ren wouldn't have an angry Zebstrika in his team. But such is the situation.]

Pokémon treats work rather well. Also words of praise and make a pat on the head work fine as well. [He shrugs.] It takes a little time to learn what each Pokémon likes, but it's worth the effort.

That sounds more like a pet than a servant.

[She frowns, now looking a bit worried.]

I've never had a pet before... my maids wouldn't let me, they said having something so dirty around would be bad for my health.

I'd say they're something in between. It's not like you can use pets to do whatever you want - but it's also true that servants are most likely to do their jobs badly if they're always mistreated, right?

That's true. If you don't give a servant what they need, they can't do the same for you.

... But that's a problem if you don't like your servants. What do I do if I get a Pokemon I don't like?

Then it's possible to let them go or trade them with someone else. Most people are willing to exchange Pokémon if you ask them over the network.

The network?

[Her look becomes one of utter and complete bafflement.]

[Ah, right.]

If you use the Pokégear, [He lifts up his.] this thing, to make a video or voice recording or a text messsage it gets sent to a network where anyone can see and reply to it.

Oh, so that's what that thing is. I didn't know how to use mine, so I left it in my room.

So you can talk to everyone in the world with it? [Legitimately pretty fascinated here.]

Everyone who has the same device, yes. You can also make private messages that only certain people can see, but the most usual way of using the device is a public post.

Like writing notes and putting them up for people to see... only with everyone on the "network". That's amazing. I'm not very good with technology, though... I hope it's not too complicated.

I wouldn't be too worried about that. Even some Pokémon can operate these devices... may it be accidental or intentional.

You can do it accidentally?

[So many problems are suddenly apparent to her.]

I'd better be careful.

Unfortunately there has been several accidental video and voice clips on the network as well as intentional Pokémon posted ones without the Trainers' will.

Well, Berserker shouldn't be able to post anything... Probably not Orpheus either. So I should be okay for now.

Mmh, it's only a worry if you acquire Pokémon that can would be able to do so. Even then you can try and keep the gear out of their reach so prevent anything.

I wonder if I can completely avoid getting Pokemon with fingers.

It's not completely impossible, but it's not only the Pokémon with fingers in some cases.

But how else would they push those small buttons?
